In the fifteenth year of the rule of the emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was the ruler of Galilee, and Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests, the word of God came to John, the son of Elizabeth, and he went through all the country along the Jordan River, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
