God told Adam, "You may eat the fruits of all the trees except one. If you eat fruit from that tree, you will die." But Satan tempted Eve. She ate some of the fruit, and her husband ate it too. At that moment their relationship with God was broken. God is holy, and sinners cannot live in his presence.
